Ouse Valley Way Relay
(July 16, 2016)Results for 2016 here
You may have been tempted by the recent communicationsl regarding the South Downs Way Relay. You may have signed up - fantastic! - Tom. Tim and Robbo value your support. You may be a little daunted by that event. In either case if the open country type of Relay intrigues you - read on.
This year, our 50th, we have suggested a friendly challenge to our neighbouring club at Burgess Hill to field a number of 6 person teams to run a relay along the Ouse Valley Way starting in Seaford and following the footpaths all the way back to the "source" at Lower Beeding, to take place on Saturday July 16th. This follows on from a great idea Ann had to run this on several Sundays last year.
The aim is to have some freindly rivalry and the 6 person teams will aim to comprise one runner from each category
Ladies - Senior, V40, V50
Mens - Senior, V40, V50
We won't worry if a team can not perfectly fit these criteria as we will accommodate a surplus of older and younger runners - even V60,V70, V80....but with some handicap/bonus allowed.
Legs will be nominated so everyone in the same age/gender group will normally run the same leg. We will plan on a "mass restart" at each leg so everyone starts at the same time. Whilst the paths are marked, a recce run is recommended, though all starting together should minimise the risk of getting lost. Legs vary from about 6.5 to 8 miles, most around 7.
We're trying to fit most of the changeovers at a pub!! to allow for adequate refreshment and much cheering on. We'll also aim to have a venue at the finish.
This is very much a club and fun event. There's no entry fees, equally there's no organised minibuses, so teams/clubs will need some self organisation for transport.
