Harriers at County X/C champs
(January 09, 2016)Haywards Heath Harriers were involved in the Sussex Cross Country Championships at Bexhill Leisure Centre. Despite weeks of heavy rain, the course itself was not as bad as everyone had feared. However, during the afternoon, the mud became more difficult to contend with and by the time the last race of the day took place, conditions were extremely testing. There were some excellent individual performances with the ever consistent Izzy Coomber picking up a silver medal in the Senior Ladies race. There were also solid performances from Darja Knotkova-Hanley (U15 Girls) who finished in 9th place and Joseph Martin (U15 Boys) finishing in 12th place, with all three of these athletes waiting to hear if they have gained selection for the National Cross Country Championship in Birmingham on 12th March. There were also good performances from the youngest members of the team, Lily Bliss-Tomlinson 28th in the U13 Girls race and Henry Forrest, 48th in the U13 Boys race.
The only age group on the day with a complete scoring team were the Senior Men who, despite losing some last minute athletes to injury, finished a creditable 5th place, with the best performances by Phil Radford who finished 15th and by veteran Paul Cousins who finished 25th, just 5 places behind fellow club mate Tom Mullen. The team was completed by Marcus Kimmins, Russ Mullen and Phil Payne.
