HHH Road Racing Championships (for the Bill Page Trophies)

(January 06, 2025)

Those with an interest in road racing, may recall that the club has run a competition for many years to recognize the club’s best male and female road racers using an age-graded methodology.  For 2024 we had nominated 3 races for this:

  • Haywards Heath 10 mile
  • Phoenix 10k
  • Barns Green HM

And we suggested runners could nominate a substitute event of the same distance as a wild card if they were missing one of the above.

The events at Phoenix disrupted many members’ racing efforts as they set aside competition to help a fellow runner in distress.  As we scratched our heads, the club’s focus on the WSFRL increasingly dominated our racing such that revising a 2024 competition became a non-starter.  Therefore, the following compromise arrangements have been agreed.

There will be no award for the discrete 2024 season

Awards will be made for a combined 2024/25 season and presented at the March 2026 annual awards event.

Athletes will be able to select their best age-graded score for each distance from the following

  • 10k                    : Phoenix race in either 2024/25 (next event 16 July 2025)
  • 10 Mile              : Haywards Heath in either 2024/25 (next event 4 May 2025)
  • Half Marathon   : Barns Green in either 2024/25 (next event 28 Sept 2025)

In addition, we will allow athletes to nominate one substitute event for one distance at an event run in either 2024 or 2025. (Reminder : both the HH 10m and Phx 10k are part of the SGP series)

For avoidance of doubt, an athlete’s age-graded total will be based on THREE events, one from each distance (10km, 10mile, HM).  Do remember that if you run the same time for the same distance in 2025 as 2024 you will probably score higher.

To allow you to keep your finger on the pulse, we have published the current status quo (without substitute nominations) on the HHH website here and will keep you posted.  If anyone already has a preliminary substitute event from the 2024 season they would like including please send their chip time and a hyperlink to event results to [email protected]  and we will include same in due course (you can swap later if you have a better score).  This will add spice as just now we only have 4 runners showing 3 scores but there are another 12 with 2 valid scores.

Volunteers to reconsider, redefine and run the 2026 edition are needed
